Sophie Oksanen
Born in 1967 in Jyväskylä, Finland. She is a contemporary novelist with a Finnish father and an Estonian mother. She studied drama at the Finnish Theater Academy. She began her literary career with her first novel, Stalin’s Cows, in 2003. It was nominated for the Runeberg Prize. Two years later, she published her second novel, Baby Jane. Her first play, The Purge, was staged at the Finnish National Theater in 2007. From there, she wrote her acclaimed novel The Purge, which was published in 2008. The novel ranked number one on the Finnish fiction bestseller list and the bestseller list in Europe. Translated into more than 40 languages. She won nine Finnish awards. And 4 other awards, including the European Book Award. It was shortlisted for the Dublin International Literary Prize. The Times said of Oksanen that she “became a literary phenomenon.” The novel “The Dog Park” is Sophie Oksanen’s seventh literary work. It was published in 2019, and the rights to translate it into more than 24 languages were sold.
